08 Oct Our Chinese docu-fiction on opera in prime time on RAI tv and on-demand
The 2017 musical road movie “The Soprano from the Silk Road” featured on the prime time slot of the Italian public channel Rai 5 at 9.15 PM, Thursday 12th October, 2023. It’s a musical road movie set amidst the grand Western opera theaters (Paris, Oslo, Palermo, etc.) and the Chinese cities of Xi’an, Ankang, and Beijing.
A human and cultural journey that narrates how the universal power of music bridges two ancient and distant civilizations, much like the historical Silk Road once did. It’s not a biopic about a great opera singer, but a creative mosaic documentary where various elements of Hui He’s story construct an understanding of the relationship between the West and China.
Singer Hui He is now the pride of China seeking recognition in the Western music world. For the audience, He serves as an excellent key to understanding the nature of Chinese identity: a sense of honor, tenacity, ambition, and unwavering dedication to one’s goals. The story of the girl who left Xi’an is a fitting metaphor for the new path of approach called The New Silk Road, the ambitious government project aiming to rebuild the ancient cultural and economic bridge between China and Europe.
