A sensory journey within a unique, luminous, and open architecture: the Joan Miró Foundation in Barcelona, by Josep Lluís Sert.

December, 2022. After a year of work, the new archive of the Joan Miró Foundation in Barcelona is open to the public. The documentary takes as its starting point this intimate and imperceptible movement, to reflect on the nature of architecture and art.

This story emerges from the friendship of two men. An intimate, respectful, and exclusive friendship cultivated over 50 years. Their empathy is easily explained: both were born in Barcelona, a city full of hopes and soon got banned by the arrival of Franco’s regime. They soon achieved international recognition without ever giving up on their principles, and now, at the end of the 60s, they return to their homeland to make a lasting impact, as revered masters.

Their project looks to the future, it’s unique and idealistic, simultaneously a gesture of revenge and reconciliation.

This building is sort of the summation of all the experiment of years” Sert reminds.

It’s called CEAC, the Centre for Contemporary Art Studies. Catalonia’s first public collection of contemporary art opened its doors on June 10th, 1975.

Joan Miró is the inspiration and the primary sponsor, along with his friend Joan Prat. Josep Lluís Sert is the practical architect who brings their vision to life.
